Orthokeratology (also known as Ortho-K) is a non-invasive treatment that can correct your vision overnight, just by wearing custom contact lenses while you sleep!
Eyecare Plus Mermaid Beach Optometrist Jackson Yip told myGC the custom contact lenses reshape the eye to enable clear vision throughout the day.
“All you need to do is come in for an assessment and we’ll check your prescription to see if you are in the range of Ortho-K. We will also do a test where we measure the shape of the eye because these contact lenses are custom made to the eye,” he said.
Mr Yip said the treatment is suitable for both adults and children.
“It’s particularly effective for patients who are short-sighted, but also can correct moderate degrees of astigmatism as well as long-sightedness,” he said.
“The benefits of Ortho-K are that you don’t have to wear glasses or contacts during the day time. A lot of patients do get issues with dry eyes wearing contacts throughout the day, and we know the disadvantages of wearing glasses, especially for those who play sports.”
